What’s New at the Valley?

During the recession this golf course is not a bad place to hide out:

Moving forward, as always, John Trelford and his hard working crew have been busy with lots of improvement around the course. They have been pruning some of the big trees in the back nine and removing some of the old dead Hemlock trees before they decide to come down on their own. Our arborists have done a striking job improving our trees. We have removed a half dozen willow trees by the pond and restored the view to the 12th green from the 12th tee just to tempt the big hitters. Hole 17 now has lots of new angles from the tee since the Elm tree was removed. (For those who miss this old tree, take comfort that it was fading away with Dutch Elm disease… we just moved the inevitable ahead a few years)  Having cart paths wall to wall has been a blessing this past year.  Without them, our brand new 2010  EZGO car fleet would have been sliding around everywhere and the course would  be a muddy mess. The extensive paving completed last fall was added to last week with additional curbing at nine and ten. Our new Jacobsen fairway mowers are doing a great job and we are seeing results with our new Jacobson bunker rake that is equipped with  a deep cultivator so bunker sand remains lighter and deeper this year. The new, and very expensive, variable speed irrigation pump is a new toy we could have done without this year, but who knows…. if it ever stops raining…..  we’ll be ready. Contour mowing has been returned to the fescue and rough and approx. 100 new trees are scheduled to be planted this year. Greens are running faster and truer with the addition of a new power brush attachment this month and we are enjoying lots of nice compliments on how true the ball is rolling.

You can never accuse us of coasting on our reputation or using the economy as an excuse to sit still.

You may have noticed little glass prisms on the flag poles recently. These support the new Bushnell Sure shot yardage gun available in the Pro Shop. Exact yardage every time.

League play is up and running and fully subscribed with the Ladies enjoying complimentary hors d’ouvres and clinics this spring and the men enjoying a few laughs and bargain priced refreshments every Wednesday night at the 19th hole. Thanks to all participants for making the Valley their golfing home.

Six pack sales have never been better nor appreciated more than now.  Six pack holders are enjoying Twilight rates of 39.50 and prime time rates of 79.00. These fully transferable player packs are good through 2010 and have never been more popular. Please visit our website www.standrewsvalley.com and look under FEES if you would like to join in the savings. If Staycations and Fakeactions are part of your recession strategy why not use your six pack as a mini membership and play every day of your vacation.

The Pro shop staff welcomes Golftown to the neighbourhood. As you can imagine we pay a lot less rent and have a fraction of the inventory which means better pricing for you. For example FJ Reel golf shoes at 139.00 and in stock Scotty Cameron putters only 199.99. You’ll get expert advice from Rob and please rememberthat custom fitting into a net is never a great idea.

Our 2009 gently used Cobra Rental clubs are now retired for the year and may be purchased complete with bag and putter and wedges for 800.00 Ladies and 700.00 for Mens

Please call the Pro shop at 905.727.7888 or book on line if you haven’t played in a while,  you’ll enjoy the improvements we’ve made.

On behalf of the happy and hard working folk at the Valley,   I look forward to seeing you on the links this Spring  !

Kind regards

David Nisbet
